Overview
We are seeking a hardworking, self-motivated person to join the horticultural team at Nuyard Garden Centre, working alongside the plant area manager to maintain our high standards. The candidate must be friendly, outgoing, be able to build a good relationship with customers and enjoy the enthusiasm our customers have for gardening. The ability to work well as part of a team is essential.
Prior horticulture experience and knowledge for plants is required.
This is a full time position working alternate weekends and a set day off during the week
The Main Responsibilities
- Maintaining the health of all the nursery stock through watering, feeding & pruning. Reducing the price on plants that are past their best and removing plants not fit for sale
- Working with the Plant Area Manager to provide training to new members of staff on basic horticultural care
- Overseeing incoming plant deliveries and ensuring stock is out for sale in a timely manner
- Working alongside the Plant Area Manager on ordering stock throughout the seasons and controlling wastage
- Maintaining plant displays and creating attractive new displays
- Ensuring the retail space is presentable for customers
- Helping customers with general gardening queries
- Customer service
- Outdoor working required in all weather conditions, physically fit and able to handle heavy stock
- Training and support will be given to assist the candidate in developing their knowledge of plants and plant care
About Nuyard Garden Centre
- Nuyard acquired this centre in March 2023, the centre has been on this location for many decades, always keeping its independent family run feel. Since acquiring the centre we have made many improvements to the centre, mainly focusing on the outside areas including the plant area.
- Our offsite Nursery has started growing the majority of our bedding plants, which is our main focus during April & May. We are also expanding the range of perennials and shrub that we grow
- We have also expanded the range of perennials and shrubs we stock, focusing on having the right plants in stock for each season, as well all the basics including Roses, Climbers, Trees, Hedging, Edible Plants & Houseplants
- The Centre also features a Restaurant, a large Farm Shop, Onsite Florist & Fencing and Paving Centre
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £12.55-£13.75 per hour
Expected hours: 38.5 per week
