Community Physiotherapy Team:
Overview: The Community Physiotherapy Team is part of Tasmania’s Department of Health and plays a vital role in delivering person-centred, community-based physiotherapy services. The team focuses on supporting individuals to maintain or improve their mobility, independence, and quality of life—particularly those with chronic conditions, or recent hospital discharges.
What the Team Does:
- Provides assessment, treatment, and management of physical conditions in district hospitals or community health settings.
- Delivers rehabilitation services to reduce hospital admissions and support earlier discharges.
- Promotes falls prevention, functional mobility, and self-management through tailored exercise programs and education.
- Works closely with clients to support goal-directed care plans that align with their health and lifestyle needs.
- Supports aged care, and post-acute populations, as well as people receiving services under CHSP.
How the Team Works:
- Operates as part of a multidisciplinary allied health team, including occupational therapists, social workers, nurses, and others.
- Collaborates with acute hospitals, general practitioners, allied health professionals, community nursing, NGOs, and local services to ensure integrated care pathways.
- Uses client-centred, evidence-based practice and promotes autonomy and community participation.
- Participates in clinical supervision, peer review, and continuous service improvement initiatives to maintain high-quality care.
- Prioritises service delivery based on clinical need, risk, and functional goals, aligned with Department of Health strategic objectives.

Our team works across all the Primary Health sites in Northern Tasmania.

Community Physiotherapy aims to optimise physical function and enhance independence and quality of life for eligible people within the community. The physiotherapist will assess a person’s condition and develop an appropriate treatment plan together with their client. This may include:
- provision of education/advice on your condition and recommended management strategies.
- prescription of home exercise program.
- individual recommendations and setup of aids for walking.
- referral to other health care professionals or community exercise groups.
Our service places a strong focus on health promotion and active self-management. Working in collaboration with other health professionals, Physiotherapists are also actively involved in chronic disease prevention, physical activity and health promotion activities in various healthcare and community settings.
Duties:
- As part of the Community Physiotherapy team, and in accordance with organisational policies and
professional code of ethics, be responsible for the efficient and effective provision of physiotherapy services
to clients living in the community in the region. - Work as part of a multidisciplinary team in providing appropriate services to clients and patients at primary
health sites, including referral to other services as required. - Participate in ongoing development and coordination of the services provided by Community
Physiotherapists in the Northern area, including supervision and support of staff and students where required. - Participate in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures, performance measures and
reporting mechanisms for physiotherapy services provided by the Community Physiotherapy Service. - Contribute to health promotion within the region.
- Maintain contemporary professional knowledge through applying evidence based practice and appropriate continuing professional development activities. Contribute to the provision of education programs.
- Ensuring standards of practice are in compliance with contemporary professional physiotherapy standards, including the Australian Standards for Physiotherapy and other relevant measures endorsed by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia and the Australian Physiotherapy Association.
- Provision and coordination of physiotherapy services to clients within the service area.
- Exercising independent professional judgment in the recognition and solving of problems and management of cases where principles, procedures, techniques, and methods require expansion, adaptation or modification.
- Professional supervision of students and less experienced physiotherapists.
- Complying at all times with THS policy and protocol requirements, in particular those relating to mandatory education, training and assessment.
You will need:
- Currently AHPRA registered (Physiotherapist) with minimum 5 years' experience.
- Australian Drivers Licence
- Be willing to work in a variety of Primary Health North sites on a rotational basis.

Details of appointment:
Multiple, fixed term, part time, day worker positions, working up to 47 hours per fortnight, 30/06/2025 until 09/02/2026.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.
Salary: $110,425 to $121,907 per annum (Pro rata). Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.
- Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

- Please note that access to salaries beyond $119,290 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme
In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
- Professional Development Allowance of up to $1000 per annum

- Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia
- Registered with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia
