· To provide care in accordance with current best practices, according to policy and procedures, agreed standards and legislative requirements.
· To provide leadership and supervise the care functions and care workers of the home in accordance with agreed standards.
· To maintain care skills and undertake training and development which may be required to maintain up to date care practice
· To actively participate within your role in a service that is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led.
Main Responsibilities:
· Instruct, support, mentor and act as a role model for new and existing Care Assistants, with an emphasis on leading carers to deliver care that respects resident’s needs and values.
· Measure and record residents’ blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration as necessary and weights. Carry out simple delegated wound dressing procedures and full urinalysis when required. Have a good understanding of infection control procedures. Report all events and variations to registered nursing staff.
· To take the lead in one specific area, i.e. infection control, Health and Safety, moving and handling.
· To monitor documentation relating to the delivery of care and ensure that documentation is completed accurately and timely legibly and in accordance with company standards. Participate in the formal audit process at the request of the Home Director
· Develop appropriate skills to complete the NVQ assessor’s qualification and thereafter undertake the assessor’s role.
· Participate in care reviews with Heads of Care to enhance care skills.
· Proactively develop professional and clinical skills in order to enhance the knowledge and skills needed for safe and effective practice.
· Support the effective resolution of team conflicts.
· Support the implementation, orientation and induction of all new employees.
· Be a self-directed team player, able to motivate a team with confidence and have excellent communication skills
· Maintain confidentiality of information regarding residents, visitors and other employees.
· Recognise the responsibilities of all staff to make new residents and new staff welcome and help to familiarise them to the home.
· Assisting in serving meals to residents particularly those who require help with eating & drinking.
· Actively participate in the social care role to encourage the physical and mental stimulation of the residents who are unable to take an active part in the activities programme within the home.
