The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you’ll provide classroom-based support for pupils with a range of additional needs. Working closely with teaching staff, you'll help ensure pupils can access learning, develop confidence, and feel safe and included throughout the school day.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting students with academic tasks and adapting materials to meet individual needs.
- Promoting social interaction, engagement, and emotional wellbeing.
- Helping implement and review personalised learning plans.
- Assisting with personal care, including feeding, toileting, and mobility, where needed.
- Supporting behaviour management using positive and proactive strategies.
- Encouraging pupils to develop independence and confidence in both academic and life skills.
- Contributing to a calm, inclusive learning environment across lessons, break times, and transitions.
The Ideal Person and Skills/Education Needed
This role is ideal for individuals with experience in care, health, or support work who are now ready to move into a school setting. The ideal candidate will have:
- A relevant qualification in support work, childcare, education, or a related field.
- Experience supporting children or adults with SEND.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Confidence in using behaviour support and de-escalation techniques.
- The ability to provide respectful and dignified personal care when needed.
- A calm, caring, and flexible approach to supporting pupils in a busy school setting.
- A genuine passion for helping young people succeed.

Hours
Monday to Friday, 8.30 am–3.30 pm. Part-time applications are welcomed.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
