Job Summary
Are you a hands-on maker with a passion for craftsmanship and creativity? Do you thrive in fast-paced, collaborative environments where no two days are the same? We’re looking for a Scenic Carpenter to join our talented team of makers, artists, and designers who build the spectacular—from stage sets and immersive installations to film props and museum displays.
As part of a dynamic workshop at the heart of the creative industries, you’ll help turn artistic visions into tangible realities.
Responsibilities
- Build and install scenic elements using timber, plywood, and a variety of other materials—from flats and platforms to intricate bespoke structures
- Interpret technical drawings and creative briefs to fabricate custom pieces with accuracy and flair
- Carry out joinery with precision and care, ensuring top-quality finishes and structural integrity
- Use a wide range of hand and power tools safely and confidently
- Occasionally assist with light masonry or related tasks when the project demands it
- Work closely with other creatives, including prop makers, scenic artists, and project managers, to bring complex builds to life
- Ensure a clean and safe workshop, adhering to all health and safety protocols
- Contribute to load-ins, fit-ups, and strikes at client venues or event spaces
Experience
- An experienced carpenter or scenic fabricator with a strong portfolio of relevant work
- Comfortable working from both detailed technical plans and more fluid creative concepts
- Skilled with tools of the trade—saws, routers, nail guns, drills, etc.—and confident in workshop best practices
- A collaborative team player who can also take the initiative when flying solo
- Detail-oriented, dependable, and committed to high production values
