About the role
A Research Assistant is required to work in the Endocrinology Section of the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction based at the Hammersmith Hospital Campus. We are seeking a high calibre Research Assistant to contribute to our ongoing research into metabolically relevant G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). Our laboratory is focussed on understanding processes by which gut hormones can be used to treat metabolic conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and steatotic liver disease. We have a particular focus on “biased agonism”, a concept wherein receptors can be prompted to couple selectively to intracellular transducers, with the aim of increasing efficacy and reducing side effects. The laboratory and research team form a diverse and welcoming environment, and the post holder will be encouraged and supported to publish and present their work and to carry out career development activities. There may be the possibility of pursuing a PhD as part of the role.
What you would be doing
The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research using a combination of in vitro cellular and in vivo techniques focussing on the targets of interest to the group. The post holder will ensure the validity and reliability of data and maintain accurate and complete records of findings, with which they will write reports for submission to research sponsors and contribute to new applications for research grants.
What we are looking for
Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree and MSc in Biochemistry/Biological Sciences/Biomedicine or a related field and relevant laboratory experience in the field of incretin receptors. Practical experience within a research environment is essential. Knowledge and research experience with in vitro research and in vivo pharmacology studies; metabolic GPCR pharmacology testing using approaches such as BRET and FRET; experience with microscopy-based techniques; and an active Home Office Personal License. The post holder will be required to work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
What we can offer you
- This post is a full time, fixed contract for 36 months
- This is an opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution
- We will support your career development activities.
- Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 38 days off a year)
