Why is the role important?
The Rent Officer role provides advice and support to customers regarding their rent accounts and benefits to ensure that the rent on their home is paid. The Rent Officer will actively seek full payment of outstanding balances and negotiate repayment arrangements for those that cannot afford to pay in full and take appropriate action for unpaid debts.
What’s involved?
- Support customers with their debt and ensure rental arrears are paid.
- Achieve high levels of performance as an individual and as part of a team.
- Maximise cash collection by asking for full payment on every contact and negotiating arrangements for those that cannot afford to pay in full.
- Prioritise own workload and manage own performance against individual targets.
- Identify arrears cases from IT systems and performance reports; and manage and escalate these cases in line with the relevant procedures and legislation.
- Proactively contact customers and respond to their enquiries using all communication methods such as telephone, letters, emails, text, face to face appointments and home visits.
- Provide advice regarding the eligibility of benefits, ensure that these are applied for, and the customers are aware of their rental liability.
- Recommend for court and eviction and prepare and submit the relevant paperwork.
- Prepare legal papers for presentation at court for all matters relating to rent possession cases.
- Taking possession proceedings to recover unpaid debts or repossession of the property.
