To ensure all raw materials (ingredients and packaging) are risk assessed and comply with required standards and customer codes of practice, for food safety, quality, integrity and legal requirements.
- Manage and maintain the supplier approval management system for raw materials (ingredients and packaging).
- Communicate and liaise with suppliers for Technical requirements.
- Supplier and raw material approval to include (but not limited to); reviewing SAQ’s, HACCP, TACCP, VACCP, accreditations, specifications, and assessing the Food Safety, Allergen, Ethical, Integrity risks and feeding this in to an overall risk assessment to determine the ability to source from this supplier & if approved, the level of monitoring required at intake.
- Determine and agree quality standards for raw materials with direct link to finished product requirements
- Ensuring accurate supply chain mapping in place for all required materials.
- Communication with NPD and Purchasing departments to ensure all standards and customers code of practise are met.
- Provide cover during periods of absence for the Raw Material Technologist
- To be part of the site integrity team, completing horizon scanning through monitoring, recording and completing agreed mitigation actions.
- Generate schedules based on the risk assessed outcomes.
- Ensuring risk assessed schedules and compliance of all raw material, ingredients and packaging intake monitoring checks.
- Ensure that traceability of the supplied goods is maintained, support traceability audits ensuring raw material traceability is accurately provided. Follow up and implement improvements where traceability non-conformance is identified. To include being part of the on site traceability team for internal and externally auditing.
- To be part of the site HACCP team, raising any Food Safety aspects with materials impacting on the site HACCP plan.
- Where non-compliance of ingredients and packaging is identified, to work collaboratively with the factory teams, ensure internal communication and control of the non-conforming item/s implementing on hold as required
- Work with QA on quality / complaint investigations to determine root cause where a raw material / ingredient / packaging may be at fault.
- To be a member of the internal auditor team, carrying out internal audits against QMS, customer codes of practise in line with scheduled requirement
- Communicate clearly, work positively and cross functionally with all departments to achieve compliance
- Project Work/Trials as requested by BEF Technical management team – Quality improvements, Shelf life, Technical innovation trials regarding incoming materials.
- Fully understand and comply with all department and company policies and guidelines
- Any other duties and projects that may be assigned as deemed necessary to the needs of the business.
Key Accountabilities and Measurables
- This role has a responsibility for food safety, product quality, brand integrity and Health and Safety
- All raw materials (ingredients and packaging) are approved with Technical documentation in place and risk assessed in compliance with customer codes of practice.
- Supplier NC’s fed back and followed up in a timely manner
- Compliance with external audit requirements for BRCGS and Customer codes of practice with zero non-conformances within area of responsibility
- Traceability exercises completed as per scheduled requirement on a monthly basis
Essential Skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook
- Fluent English language
- Detailed with high attention to detail
- Technical Food industry experience and/or Higher education Food Science qualification

- HACCP Level 2 or higher
- Food Safety Level 2 or higher
- Internal Auditor Trained
- WH Management Systems (daily interaction required)
