Quantity Surveyor

National Grid
£54,000 - £64,000
Nottingham, England
Full time

About us

At National Grid, our commitment to a cleaner, greener energy future is powered by the dedication and ingenuity of our people. Join our team as a Quantity Surveyor and be a part of something bigger—where your unique skills and passions can make a real difference. Together, we are superpowered.

National Grid is hiring a Quantity Surveyor for our Infrastructure Delivery Team based in the East Midlands.

About the role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will provide contract and commercial guidance to the project teams in supporting the development and delivery of connection and infrastructure projects safely, on time and within budget.

As owners of Wales and England’s electricity transmission network, we take green energy seriously. Between now and 2026 we’re investing £29 billion into the decarbonisation of energy systems.

Would you like to be involved in this vital transition? If you’re an experienced Quantity Surveyor who wants more responsibility and the chance to work on high-value, complex schemes, we’d like to hear from you. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the UK’s transition to clean energy.

What you'll do

Supporting procurement activities associated with the projects, acting as the key commercial representative providing guidance on commercial and contract management considerations and advising on contract options and budget estimates, including risk and contingency allowances.

You’ll be responsible for the quality assurance of construction contracts, including maintaining accurate contractor data records, providing commercial and contract management support, guidance and coaching to the project delivery team and ensuring contractor costs are robustly managed across the portfolio of projects.

Ensuring contract compliance, monitoring of spend against agreed budgets, KPIs and other metrics. Helping your project team develop and maintain cost forecasts will be a key responsibility.

You’ll produce all necessary contract forms such as valuations and payment recommendations and instructions and communications for the assigned project, leading on providing independent reviews and advice on variations and compensation events, supporting any escalation procedures and dispute avoidance and resolution processes.

What you'll need

You’ll be an experienced Quantity Surveyor, who has previously delivered several projects with the ability to demonstrate experience of contract and commercial management, stakeholder engagement, risk management, and procurement.

You will have a degree in quantity surveying or a related discipline such as construction management or construction law and an understanding of NEC contracts (Option A, C and E). Ideally you have experience on infrastructure projects, but this isn’t essential. You might have a contractor or consultant background, for example.

You must also have a driving licence that permits you to drive in the UK. There is an expectation that you’ll be able to travel to site as and when required, but as part of our hybrid working model, you’ll also have the flexibility to work from home, a National Grid office, or site.

What you'll get

£54,000 - £64,000 dependant on experience – plus an additional Market Supplement of £3,000

We are keen to see our people progress and will support you in gaining the qualifications and skills you need to develop, bespoke to your needs and those of the business.
