We are looking for 1 or 2 permanent psychotherapists or , therapist join our therapeutic team at Bayleaf Care.
As a child psychotherapist, you will work with children and young people from the ages of six to seventeen years old. These children will have suffered trauma in their formative years, the consequence being that they would have incurred a range of challenges, some of which may be severe or long lasting.
These can include psychosomatic disorders, aggression, development delay, phobias, depression, gender dysphoria, consequences of child abuse, self-harming, learning difficulties and disabilities and eating disorders.
We have flexible options available. These include a 13-hour per week contract based at our children’s home near Yoxall, where the salary is £16,750, a 16- hour per week contract based at our children’s home in Littleover, where the salary is £20,615 or one person who could do both permanent roles.

We have homes that look after children with emotional and behavioural difficulties and children’s home that specifically care for young people with learning disabilities and physical disabilities.
Our approach starts with the key worker, who forms a strong, trusting bond with the child. This relationship is essential for the child’s development and continues throughout their care.
We offer personalised care, education, and support led by a team of trained professionals, helping children manage their emotions and behaviours in a safe, supportive environment.
There are currently 4 children’s homes open, with another 3 children’s homes due to open by the end of 2025.
Each children’s home has their own permanent on-site therapist and a pool car.
Purpose of the Role:
You will use therapy to assess and work with the children within the home, us a variety of approaches to meet the needs of the children, including talking, drawing and playing. You will also need to observe what the child may be communicating non-verbally.
You will see the child or young person on an individual, sessional basis and provide support to integrate a therapeutic approach within the home..
Responsibilities
As a child therapist at Bayleaf Care, you will need to:
- provide specialist psychotherapeutic assessments of referred children and young people, as to decide on the most appropriate therapeutic plan.
- develop specialist programmes of care and to individually provide psychotherapeutic treatment to children and adolescents.
- carefully observe children and young people and respond to what they might be communicating through their behaviour, play and non-verbal presentation.
- tailor your approach to meet the needs of the individual child and work in an age-appropriate way, for example you might use play or drawing techniques with younger children but talk about feelings with teenagers.
- ensure that therapeutic support is integrated with the work of the therapeutic residential staff. For example, that you and the residential staff members are working in accordance with the placement plan.
- provide long-term interventions with children and young people, implementing regular psychotherapeutic sessions.
- attend team meetings, clinical meetings, and work alongside other professionals in planning how best to help a child in placement.
- regularly review and monitor the outcome of assessments and effects of treatment.
- offer psychotherapeutic advice, training, consultation and supervision to other professionals who contribute directly to the child's treatment and placement plan.
- undertake risk assessments and risk management from a child psychotherapy perspective.
Experience
- Experience of delivering child and young person’s therapeutic interventions.
- Experience of facilitating psychological assessments and formulating plans.
- Demonstrate significant post-qualification experience. Confident in supporting / offering interventions to children and young people who have experienced trauma.
- Knowledge of safety factors in management of self-harming behaviours.
- Able to work in a therapeutic way that responds to a child's needs.
Essential Qualifications:
- A relevant professional qualification at Master's Degree level, including: Counselling Psychology, Art Therapy, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy/counselling, CBT, or other approaches; Nursing, Psychology, or other relevant field, Professional Counselling qualification/ or similar, e.g. Play Therapy or Integrative Psychotherapy.
- Registered/accredited member of a professional body (such as AFT, BABCP, BPS, BACP, UKCP).
