About the role
The Production Planner plays a crucial role in manufacturing and production environments, being responsible for ensuring that the production process runs smoothly and efficiently. They will coordinate and optimises the production workflow to meet deadlines and maintain quality standards, as well as securing that all parts and raw materials are available on time to fulfil the required production plans.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring works orders, picking lists and manufacturing orders are raised that outline what needs to be produced/picked, in what quantities, and by when
- Ensuring that inventory levels for raw material and components are maintained at optimal levels to meet production needs
- Working closely with various departments, such as quality assurance, production and manufacturing to ensure smooth production processes
- Managing the availability of raw material and components and other resources required for production
- Continuously monitoring production schedules and adjusting the master plan on a rolling basis to address any issues or changes in demand and supply
- Creation of the supply plan utilizing ERP or external planning tool to secure supply plans are fulfilled on time (future)
- Prepare data ready for installation of a new ERP system (SAP)
- Plan both short and long-term to align supply and demand to support inventory requirements to meet service level
- Input and update Parts, assemblies (BOMS), and kits on to the ERP system and maintain their accuracy
- Set, implement and maintain planning parameters: MOQ/EOQ, Safety Stock, Inventory Level
- Identify opportunities to drive sustainable service, inventory turns, and non-working inventory improvements
- Assist business group operations with capacity planning, demand, and supply synchronization, and executing against strategic business targets
- Communicate regularly and effectively back to lead production planner and line managers on inventory risks (stock out/Excess/Slow Moving inventory) and backorder level on supply plan fulfilment
- Communicate regularly, proactively and effectively back to lead production planner on raw material and semifinished inventory at risk (stock out and slow-moving inventory) products
- Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly production plans
- Set preferred stock levels and prevent excess inventory
- Perform other related duties as required

- Demonstrate in daily activities a commitment to health and safety in the workplace by always ensuring tasks are performed in the safest possible manner
- Report all hazards and incidents that the individual is party to, or observes, in the correct manner.
- When required or directed, participate in any health and safety training.
Skills and Experience
Essential:
- Proven track record within production planning
- Experience using Microsoft packages such as Word, Excel, Teams etc.
- Experience writing concise and technical emails
- Experience using PLM software and navigating and understanding BOMS
- Ability to communicate effectively through all necessary messaging, able to speak confidently in face-to-face and virtual meetings and actively listens to others
- High attention to detail, double checking of your own and others work to ensure that all documents, parts and information is correct before being finalised on the ERP system
- Highly analytical mind that can use MS office apps (excel) to view and organise data to view trends
Desirable:
- Proven track record in the Aerospace sector
- Advanced use of Excel
- Abilities to understand drawings and technical information
Personal Attributes
- Must be a British Citizen or have an existing right to work in the UK
- Ability to commit to occasional national and international travel
- A full valid UK driving license
- Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK
