Job Purpose and Overview
You will take a leading role in the administration of estates, including high value and complex matters, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients navigating the probate process. You will manage your caseload from inception to closure, including liaising with executors, beneficiaries, HMRC, and other professional parties, always delivering a high standard of client care and technical accuracy. This role requires a strong understanding of probate procedures, legal documentation, and client communication.
You will be confident working autonomously while also contributing to the growth and development of less experienced team members. This is a full time position (35 hours per week).
Key Tasks, Knowledge and Accountabilities
- Manage a full and varied caseload of probate matters, including complex, high-value, and taxable estates
- Prepare and submit probate applications (both online and paper), including IHT205 and IHT400 forms
- Draft detailed estate accounts, deal with the collection and distribution of assets, and handle cross-border elements where applicable
- Experience with NRB trusts and their implementation and taxation
- Experience with processes and documentation around NRB trusts and appointments and closures and the implications thereof
- Liaise with executors, beneficiaries, HMRC, financial institutions, and the Probate Registry
- Provide empathetic and practical support to clients throughout the administration process
- Support, mentor, and supervise junior team members, offering guidance, technical oversight, and feedback as needed
- Keep up to date with changes in probate law, inheritance tax, and best practices
- Ensure strict compliance with CLC and firm-wide procedures, including AML and data protection protocols
Person specification
- Minimum of 68 years experience in UK probate and estate administration, you may be a qualified Solicitor, CILEX or Step member
- Proven ability to manage complex matters independently with minimal supervision
- In-depth knowledge of inheritance tax reporting, estate taxation, and probate processes
- Experience with international estates, trusts, or business succession matters
- Experience supervising or mentoring others, formally or informally
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a client-focused approach
- Comfortable working under pressure, managing deadlines, and prioritising workloads
- Proficient in legal case management systems and Microsoft Office

- We offer a competitive salary within a salary scale that allows ongoing progression
