MAKE A BIGGER DIFFERENCE
You may know MACH for the outstanding acoustics consultancy we’ve provided for 20 years. But you may also know MACH for its determination to think differently and deliver improved levels of consultancy. We are growing, adding, and enhancing our services. For a few years, building physics consultancy has been one of our core strengths in delivering better, greener buildings.
Our mission is simple but ambitious: to deliver low-carbon, high-performance buildings through innovative thinking; a design-led consultancy driven by thick different. To do this we strive to create a workplace where people feel valued, inspired, and free to think and grow.
We’re looking for a Principal Building Physics Consultant to help lead and shape our sustainability and building physics team. If you want your work to mean more, your voice to be heard, and your ideas to shape the future of sustainable design, we want to meet you.
Why Join MACH?
GROWING OUR TEAM - As our reputation grows, so does our team. At MACH, you’ll help shape not just designs, but also our direction, culture, and standards. We’re inspired by the people we work with. That’s why we hire carefully, manage with care, and grow together. We want every team member to feel empowered, supported, and able to do the best work of their career.
We’re now looking for someone who can lead in this space and contribute meaningfully to our growth and
evolution.
INNOVATION BY DESIGN - From RIBA Stage 2, we start with acoustics, daylighting, and heat gain to inform smarter decisions about ventilation and sustainability. This first-principles, early-stage thinking allows us to deliver truly integrated, low-carbon building solutions.
We’re looking for an engineer who not only thinks critically but also takes a step back to explore better, more thoughtful solutions.
ACADEMIC ROOTS, REAL-WORLD IMPACT - We stay at the forefront through active university partnerships — including Bath, Bristol, Southampton, and UWE — grounding innovation in real-world delivery and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
About the Role
This is a senior, hands-on role where you’ll lead projects, mentor others, and help grow MACH’s sustainability and building physics capabilities. You’ll work closely with our senior team, contributing not only to project delivery but also to the development of the company itself — including the expansion of our services. And if you’re interested, there’s also the opportunity to work withing our renowned acoustics group.
You will:
- Lead the delivery of sustainable and low-carbon design services
- Oversee and manage overheating, daylight, ventilation, and energy modelling projects
- Develop and review reports, fee proposals, and planning documents
- Work closely with our acoustics team to deliver integrated, cross-disciplinary design

- Mentor junior team members and contribute to strategic development
About You:
You’re someone who wants their work to make a difference, for clients, the environment, and the people around you.
You might be an experienced Principal Consultant, or a Senior ready to step up. Either way, you’re driven by impact, not ego, and want to work in a place where you’re trusted, respected, and supported to do your best.
You’ll bring:
- A degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Design, Building Services, or a related discipline
- Strong knowledge of UK sustainability regulations and standards (e.g., Part L, TM52, TM59)
- Proficiency in IES, TAS, or similar tools for energy, ventilation, and daylight analysis
- Experience with Whole Life Carbon (WLC) and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A track record of delivering successful sustainability strategies
- A commercial mindset and interest in helping MACH grow
- A UK driving license is preferred
What You’ll Get:
- A genuine voice in the company’s direction and culture

- Support from a passionate and caring leadership team
- Access to high-impact projects shaping the future of sustainable design in the UK
