About the role
The role is a mixture of physical playground inspections as well as carrying out a proportion of maintenance work identified from the inspections. The inspections are managed and recorded via use of a hand held digital device. You will travel around the district in the Council vehicle provided as a lone working operative. Usually, the routine inspections are completed Monday-Thursday and prioritised maintenance work is then completed on Friday. When emergency health and safety work has been reported, you will be required to change your planned day to resolve the issues as efficiently as possible.
Being in the public domain, you will occasionally be required to talk to members of the public and explain who you are and what role you are undertaking.
About you
It is important that you are competent with using and navigating a handheld digital device such as a smart phone or tablet as playground inspections are managed and recorded electronically. It is essential that you can use practical tools safely to carry out repairs on play and outdoor gym equipment such as drills, saws and sanding and grinding tools. It is also important for you to be observant and risk assessment aware to minimise the risk of missing hazards during your inspections. A valid UK driving licence is essential (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act).
About us
Our recent Local Government Association Peer Challenge highlighted that ‘EDDC is a great place to work, with engaged staff and members’ and that’s certainly true! You will be part of a Gold Investors in People (IiP) organisation which works together with local people to create great value services and an outstanding community, economy and environment in which people want to live, work, visit and enjoy now, and for future generations. And with our wide range of health and wellbeing benefits, our highly flexible and collaborative hybrid Worksmart working arrangements as well as our commitment to continuous learning and development, you can be confident of joining a dedicated community of colleagues who are Happy, Healthy and Here.
