Role Overview
Reporting to the Shore Support Manager, the Planning & Workshop Controller will manage the Works Management and allied processes, keeping an overview and track of high-level works demand from Fleet Management and the Fleet.
The role holder will also manage and oversee the safe and productive utilisation of the Faulds Park Workshop, when workshop operations are underway, to ensure the effective operation of the Faulds Park Workshop Operations & Safety Management System.
Principal Accountabilities
- The operation and management of workshop safety and operations system
- Programming, tracking and reporting progress on workshop works
- The operation and effective running of the Works Management and allied processes
- Be the planning linkage between Fleet Groups and Shore Support
- Ensuring all work request are recorded and routed to engineering teams
- Compile, publish and maintain a high level demand forecasts for the overhaul season
- Deputising in the Shore Support Manager’s absence
Planning Controller
- Ensure the effective operation and use of the Works Management and allied process
- Ensure works requests are routed to Senior Engineers for Works Planning & Works Scheduling
- Maintain high level trackers & reports for key commitment areas of service
- Working with Fleet Groups, create & maintain a high-level demand plan for overhaul seasons
- Coordinate with Senior Engineers on: works demand; prioritisation; & resource allocation
- Working with Senior Engineers ensure all accepted works are planned and scheduled in accordance with the Works Planning & Works Scheduling processes
- Attend Fleet Group Daily & Weekly calls to be Shore Support linkage
- Be key linkage between Shore Support & Maintenance Planning (S&P)
Workshop Controller
- Responsible for safety and environmental management systems at Faulds Park workshop
- Ensure workshop users maintain the tidiness and cleanliness of the facility utilising managed and documented processes and procedures (for example 5S)
- Ensure that all appropriate risk assessments and safe systems of work are in place for use of workshop facilities
- Ensure all workshop and issued tools and equipment are: correctly maintained, calibrated & repaired when defective; and fully compliant with all current legislation and regulations
- Ensure that only trained and competent personnel are permitted to utilise workshop equipment
- Ensure all test equipment and tools is in-date for test and calibration
Stakeholder Relations
- Create positive relationships with key stakeholders (Fleet Groups, vessel staff, Finance etc.)
- Create, develop and implement agreed KPIs to monitor performance by self and others
- Consult with Fleet Group teams to understand their requirements of Shore Support
- Actively seek measurable feedback key stakeholders on the quality of services provided
General Management
- Comply with and promote safety rules and procedures, challenge unsafe behaviour, and ensure all accidents, near misses are reported in-line with the company’s lifesaving rules
- Ensure good management processes and procedures are in place to support high performance of a safe, reliable team.
- Provide support and ensure follow-up is accomplished to conclusion for any internal or external audits, management reports or inspections in area of responsibility
- Any other tasks and duties required by manager, where the role holder is deemed safe and competent to undertake those tasks and duties
Qualifications, skills and experience
Essential
- At least 10, or more, years experience of working in engineering, or technical, support service environments
- At least 5 years experience of workshop based, industrial, marine, or energy sector, support operations
- At least 5 years experience of support for the planning & scheduling of works
- A minimum of an HNC level qualification in an allied technical field
- A clear and competent communicator vocally and in writing
- Can demonstrate:
- Leadership in health & safety management
- Excellent relationship management skills
- Experience of development & use of robust and comprehensive planning processes and procedures
- Experience in optimising and improving service performance
- Experience of the use of continuous improvement processes that lead to measurable service improvements
- Experience of the development & and use of quality assurance processes that underpin service delivery
- High levels of competence in Microsoft Excel and Word etc.
Desirable
- A formal safety management qualification
- Competence in Microsoft Power suit of applications
