Planning Assistant
Development Management / Local Planning, Planning Services
We have a unique opportunity for someone to join our Planning Team to obtain experience in both our Local Plan and Development Management teams. This would be an ideal post for a Planning Graduate or for someone with experience working in a town planning environment. It would be suitable for someone with ambition who wishes to obtain a range of experience to help develop their career. If you have an aptitude for developing and implementing planning policy that would be a distinct advantage. Once again, if you are dedicated, creative, solution focussed and can work well as part of a team, this could be the right opportunity for you to kickstart your career in planning.
Job requirements:
For the first year you will be reviewing, monitoring and developing policy in anticipation of work beginning on a new Sefton Local Plan in 2026. When you join the Development Management team you will be responsible for processing planning applications and appeals, providing guidance to applicants, agents, and the general public on matters related to the Planning Service.
You will need to have a flexible and positive approach to work, along with a good knowledge of planning legislation and guidance. We require a strong commitment to customer care and the ability to work effectively as part of a busy team.
You must have:
- A qualification in Town Planning (or equivalent) or some experience working in a Town Planning role
- The ability to demonstrate excellent customer care
- High quality communication and organisational skills
- The ability to present work of a high standard to strict deadlines whilst under pressure
- Excellent IT skills.
Experience in reviewing and developing policy would be an advantage.
Provisional interview date week commencing 15th September 2025.
