Role Summary:
We are seeking a reliable and dedicated Personal Assistant (PA) to support a Disabled Artist with complex care needs. The PA will support the Artist to engage in commitments relating to her work as a self employed creative and music artist.
We’re looking for someone with a passion for supporting creativity and autonomy, who is flexible, empathetic and works on initiative. The PA will assist with day-to-day tasks, work-related travel, creative gigs, residencies, festivals, admin, and some aspects of personal care and wellbeing.
This is a freelance, self-employed position offering consistent, ongoing work to the right candidate.
Duties:
- Provide physical and wellbeing support to help the artist manage their health conditions;
- Attend and support the artist at creative commitments (gigs, photoshoots, festivals, residencies, etc.);
- Support with pre/post event preparation: packing, planning, transport, shopping;
- Drive the artist to various locations (long-distance travel may be required with reasonable built in breaks);
- Assist with admin and communication duties both personal and professional;
- Help with occasional domestic tasks;
- Maintain confidentiality and act with professionalism at all times;
- Support with moving and carrying equipment (e.g. instruments or stands).
- Body doubling;
- Support with research relating to the artist’s role e.g. finding new job opportunities and funding streams;
- Support the artist with writing emails, bids and other documents relating to their work;
- Flexibility to work some late nights, weekends and occasional overnight stays. (There will be discussions around general availability and schedule considering both parties personal circumstances).

Person Specification
We are seeking a multi skilled individual to deliver this role. Below are some key qualities necessary for successfully supporting the artist.
Health Support, Disability Awareness and Understanding
- Strong understanding of hidden disabilities and mental health conditions.
- An understanding of the ‘Social Model of Disability’ and Neurodiversity or, a willingness to learn about these.
- Valid DBS within the last 3 years, or willing to apply for one.
Flexibility & Practical Support
- Able to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional overnight stays
- Able to adapt calmly and reliably to changing situations or schedules
- A confident driver with a UK licence, access to a vehicle, and appropriate insurance (reasonable travel expenses reimbursed)
Communication & Advocacy
- Excellent open and honest communication skills
- Ability to communicate in a clear, respectful and accessible way
- Able to advocate or challenge situations on the artist’s behalf when needed
- Comfortable managing complex interpersonal or logistical situations with confidence and care.
Organisation & Responsibility
- Excellent timekeeping and scheduling skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a practical, creative approach to tasks
- Understands the impact of last-minute cancellations on a freelance artist's career
- Consistently conducts themselves in a kind, caring, and respectful manner.
Work Eligibility & Admin
- Must be registered as self-employed
- Ideally familiar with the Access to Work scheme (or willing to learn)
- Commitment to confidentiality, safeguarding, and professional conduct
- Access to own laptop and car is necessary.

Previous qualifications are desirable but not necessary for this role, however some care/caregiving experience (even if in a personal capacity) is required. Please ensure this is clearly noted within your application and covering letter.
Terms of Employment:
The artist is ideally looking for a long term hire to offer consistency and continuity of care avoiding the need to rehire in the short term.
Location: Wolverhampton and other locations as required. Some home working may also be involved.
Hours: 7-14 per week
Rate of Pay: £20 per hour
Start date: End of August/Beginning of September.
