This is an exciting opportunity as a Healthcare Support Worker for the Oncology unit.
The lead patient care assistant will be directly responsible for the safe completion of delegated duties, providing patient centred care and providing health and independence through raising awareness and care navigation to other professionals appropriate.
To provide support and assistance to patients and staff as required.
To assist the Doctors & nurses with the examination and care of patients within the Dorothea Unit.
To assist with clerical procedures in supporting the team as required.
To participate in training to further develop the role and co-ordinate the day to day workload under guidance of the nurse in charge.

Undertake simple clinical procedures as delegated and under the guidance of the nurse in charge.
Carry out patient care to maintain the safety of the patient, under the supervision of a trained registered practitioner whilst co-ordinating the workload/duties for the department. This may include: cannulation, venepuncture, venesection, sample collection, blood pressure monitoring, pulse check, simple wound care/skin care, and other tasks according to training and competencies.
Update patient records following delegated patient care.
Demonstrate the ability to recognise changing priorities seeking advice and guidance from the Registered Nurse or other registered care professionals as appropriate.
Anticipate the needs of the patient to ensure comfort, safety and dignity at all times.
Assist patients in preparation for, and whilst undergoing, routine and specialised.
To check patient identification and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests.
Establish and maintain a good communication channel to support patient confidence, reporting back and share information with the Registered Nurses on the condition, behaviour, activity and responses of the patient.
Escort patients to other departments as appropriate.
Be friendly and helpful towards staff, patients their relatives and friends in all clinical areas and on the telephone.
Receive patients, relatives and colleagues into the department and direct to the appropriate area.
Ensure the patients environment and all equipment is kept clean and stored safely.
Recognise issues relating to safeguarding vulnerable children and adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate registered care professionals.
Assist in the assessment of and contribute to the management of risk across several areas within the environment where care is being delivered.
Assist in the implementation of appropriate action to meet the specific physical, emotional and psychological, social, cultural and spiritual needs of patients and carers.
Demonstrate skills in relation to coaching/teaching patients/carers/other staff.
