The Role
You’ll be supporting pupils in Key Stage 2 with a range of additional needs, including learning difficulties and social, emotional or mental health challenges. Your role will involve:
- Helping pupils access learning in core subjects through structured, one-to-one or small group support
- Providing calm and consistent emotional reassurance to build focus and engagement
- Supporting social interaction and emotional regulation, both in and out of the classroom
The school is looking for someone who can build trust, offer steady encouragement and work closely with class teachers to adapt learning to individual needs.
What We’re Looking For
This opportunity is ideal for someone who:
- Holds a recognised Teaching Assistant qualification
- Has experience supporting children with SEN and/or SEMH needs
- Brings a patient, calm and nurturing approach to classroom life
- Is confident working independently or as part of a team
Experience from care, support work or health and social care is highly valued and transferable to this role.

Working Hours
This is a part-time, morning-only role, Monday to Friday. The role begins in September for the first half of the autumn term, with a strong likelihood of extension for the full term and the potential to become permanent.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
