Orthopaedic Trauma Nurse Coordinator

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
£38,682 - £46,580 a year
Basingstoke and Deane, England
Full time
An opportunity has arisen for a trauma nurse coordinator to join the orthopaedic trauma team at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

We are looking for an individual with exceptional communication skills and proven experience of working in a fast-paced environment and able to prioritise an ever-changing workload. You will hold the bed capacity bleep for trauma orthopaedics and be expected to co-ordinate the seamless flow of trauma patients through the service, supporting and improving the scheduling of surgery for trauma patients. You will be required to maintain close working relationships with the multidisciplinary team, providing strong visible clinical leadership along the pathway for trauma patients.

Ensure appropriate prioritisation of the trauma patients waiting surgery, both inpatient and outpatient, considering the clinical needs of the patients and surgeons available. Work closely with theatres in the provision of accurate and contemporaneous information of trauma patients and their surgical management to facilitate the smooth running of the list. To discuss individual patients with CoW /on call consultant to ensure that theatre lists reflect patients’ priorities, matching complexity of the patient’s surgery against the availability of surgeons and anaesthetists. To practice high standards of accurate verbal and written communication including that which is sensitive and/or complex to develop, promote and maintain effective working relationships across boundaries and the multi-professional team. To act as a role model to assist with the development of less experienced staff from all relevant disciplines. To maintain development of personal knowledge, clinical skill and experience. Recognise limits to personal confidence and competence acting to address these in accordance with NMC Code/standards and Trust policy. Engage with patients and their families/carers ensuring that they are fully involved in the management of their care (assessment, planning, initiation, evaluation) where appropriate. Work with the surgical bed manager and site team to support the transfer of patients into trauma and orthopaedic beds when required, to support Trust pressures.

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.

We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.

The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors. The Council of Governors represent the interests of their constituencies and influence the future plans of the Foundation Trust.

Tackling Climate Change: Hampshire Hospitals aims to embed sustainability and net zero carbon principles into the delivery of care across all its services. To find out more, search HHFT Climate Action or [email protected] .
