Job Title: National Police Chiefs' Council - Business Support Officer

Salary: The starting salary is £38,926, which includes allowances totalling £2,928.

The salary is broken down as £35,998 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £38,523 Plus, a location allowance of £1,928 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.

Location: 50 Broadway, London. A minimum of 3 days a week in the office is required.

Contract: Fixed Term Contract until 31/03/2026 (with the potential for further extension subject to funding and performance).


THE NATIONAL POLICE CHIEFS’ COUNCIL (NPCC)

NPCC BUSINESS SUPPPORT TEAM
Business Support maintains the logistics for the delivery of strategic meetings including Chief Constables Council, Regional Chiefs and the newly formed Strategic Planning and Coordination Board. Other responsibilities include supporting the remote workforce for all IT and equipment, HR support, finance, governance assurance, information management and data protection protocols, and host force management duties. The team also work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the NPCC is able to support Chief Officers in the constantly evolving areas of national policing.

THE ROLE

The Business Support Officer is responsible for providing business and secretariat support to the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC), meetings, functional committees/groups and the NPCC governance structures, as well as general business support across the teams. This would include SharePoint creation, management of comms platform, and supporting general ICT BAU requests, senior chief officer requests and queries.

The successful candidate would need to have the following experiences and skills:

  • Knowledge of IT systems (proficient use of SharePoint is required and o365 systems is desirable), the ability to pick up new system/packages quickly and keep up to date with technology as it develops/advances. Proactively problem solve, flag issues with managers.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills with the ability to create impact and communicate effectively with people at all levels establishing credibility and influencing stakeholders. Experience of progress chasing, negotiating and influencing and responding to enquiries providing advice and guidance to Chief Officers and senior managers and acting as a focal point for enquirers.
  • Good skills in planning, development, assurance, governance and delivery within a large and complex organisation, preferably within policing or the public sector – not essential but desirable.
  • Experience of managing communication platforms such as intranet and websites.
  • Good organisational and time management skills to be able to manage a fast-paced environment with conflicting deadlines and multiple priorities
  • Line management experience is desirable
  • Additional experience of working in a police environment within an operational setting
  • Time spent in the office – Given the role will be 3 days minimum in the office, is this achievable for you when apply for this role.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Occasional national travel may be required. Travel expenses will be paid if location allowance is not being received, or when travel falls outside of the home to work journey. NPCC will pay for overnight accommodation if required.

The Metropolitan Police manage HR for NPCC recruitment.
