Tenure: Fixed term - 18 months
Salary: Band 3 Salary Scale: £28,011 - £30,230
Modern Apprentice Salary: Starting salary: £21,161 per annum, or Scottish Living Wage, whichever is highest
- Band 3 Annexe 21 Year 1 – 70% of top of scale
- Band 3 Annexe 21 Year 2 – 75% of top of scale
On successful completion of the programme, you will be supported into permanent employment at the entry point of a Band 3 starting salary scale.

The role: Working within the acute sector of NHSGGC, Senior Healthcare Support Workers (SHCSWs) will work in a range of specialities with teams of varying sizes. SHCSWs will become more specialised within the area they work and undertake specialist tasks and roles, deliver delegated care, treatment or intervention with compassion, civility and kindness, under the direction and supervision (direct and indirect) of a registered healthcare practitioner or Assistant Practitioner, contribute to own team and the multidisciplinary / multi-agency team in the delivery of high-quality patient-centred care and work within local policies and guidelines.
- Carrying out competency based care / procedures for example, long term conditions care, Early Warning Scoring, venepuncture and cannulation, sample testing, deliver / assist and support a variety of therapeutic / care / technical procedures and interventions.
- Carry out specific delegated clinical tasks and procedures and responsibilities to a high standard, taking into consideration the individual needs of the people they are working with.
- Assist with prehabilitation/rehabilitation programmes for specific groups of patients, making assessment of progress and providing advice to the patient / carers.
- Work within established guidelines whilst working alone
- Maintain a level of knowledge and understanding of health conditions, approaches to health improvement and wellbeing that will support them to deliver person-centred care.
- Following the initial assessment by a registered practitioner, take responsibility for planned, assigned care or treatment including defined clinical or therapeutic interventions or technological support within the care environment, recognising and understanding role boundaries and limitations.
- Work under the direction and supervision (direct and indirect) from healthcare practitioners and / or assistant practitioners in the delivery of person-centred care, treatment or interventions
- Demonstrate effective infection prevention and control measures as per local and national policies and procedures
- Communicate both routine and sensitive information to people receiving care, carers, relatives and other healthcare professionals / services / agencies with sensitive and compassionate person-centred approaches
- Work as part of a multidisciplinary / multiagency team
- Use of eHealth systems

Entry Requirements:

In order to be considered for interview your Application Form MUST clearly demonstrate that you meet the following criteria:
- A National 5 qualification in English at Grade A to C (or Standard Grades 1 and 2 OR Intermediate 2 A to C) or equivalent qualification in ESOL, and
- A National 5 qualification in Maths at Grade A-C (or Standard Grades 1 and 2 OR Intermediate 2 A to C)
- A national 4 qualifications (Science or Healthcare-related subject is desirable)

SCQF Level 5 Core Skills in the following:
Numeracy
Working with others
Communication
ICT
Problem Solving
AND
- Fully complete the application form
