Agency taking seeking experienced support workers to work with young persons with challenging behaviour.
Specialised training such as MAPA is a must. You will be working with service users between the ages of 16-24 years of age. The right candidates must be fully competent with managing challenging behaviour and administrating medication
What are the typical working hours?
Care work offers a degree of flexibility but you can typically expect to work up to 40 hours a week.
Job Summary:
The ideal candidate will provide direct support to individuals with challenging behaviour. The primary responsibility of the mental health support worker is to empower the clients to achieve their goals, improve their quality of life, and develop coping skills.
Responsibilities:
1. Build rapport and establish trusting relationships with clients.
2. Provide emotional support, encouragement, and active listening to clients.
3. Collaborate with mental health professionals, including therapists and psychiatrists, to ensure coordinated care.
4. Monitor clients' progress and behavior, and document observations accurately.
5. Facilitate group activities and support groups to promote socialization and skill-building.
6. Assist with daily living tasks, including meal preparation, medication management, and personal hygiene, as needed.
7. Advocate for clients' rights and access to resources within the community.
8. Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques when necessary.
Skillset:
Moving and Handling Practical, Moving and Handling Theory, Challenging Behaviour, Mental Health Awareness, Medication Management, Epilepsy Awareness, Understanding Learning Disability, Autism Awareness, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), Learning Disability, Mandatory Training Certificate
Qualifications:
- MAPA
- Oliver McGowan LD & Austim (Preffered not Essential)
- Previous experience working with individuals with mental health disorders preferred.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Empathy, patience, and non-judgmental attitude.
- Knowledge of mental health principles, interventions, and resources.
- Mandatory Trainings.
- Practical Moving and Handling (in date)
