About us
The Democratic Services team ensures the smooth operation of local government by coordinating council meetings, preparing agendas and minutes, and advising on governance and legal procedures. They also support public engagement, uphold transparency, and assist councillors in fulfilling their democratic responsibilities. The team also plays a pivotal role in supporting the Mayor and Deputy Mayor in fulfilling their ceremonial and community leadership duties. Operating within the Council, the team ensures that civic events are conducted with the utmost professionalism and engagements are managed efficiently
The role
We are looking for a Mayoral Attendant to support a thriving Democratic Services Section at Warrington Borough Council. You will be working 7 hours per week (prioritising Monday, Wednesday and Weekends). Annualised hours system in operation, with an irregular work pattern, including weekend, evening work and bank holidays. Appropriate enhanced rates payable in line with Council policy.
What's needed?
Join us and you will assist in:
Supporting the Mayor and Mayoress/Consort, Deputy Mayor & Deputy Mayoress/Consort and accompany them at functions, meetings and other events, ensuring the Mayor’s proper recognition by acting as announcer and toastmaster as required.
Providing an appropriate chauffeur service to the Mayor and Mayoress/Consort, Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress/Consort, including the
- Driving of the civic car
- Ensuring that the car is in immaculate order at all times, cleaning as necessary
- Ensuring that servicing and repairs are properly carried out at appropriate times and the vehicle is checked before each engagement
Being responsible for the proper care and safekeeping of the Mayoral insignia, e.g. Chains of Office, Sword, Mace, Robes and associated apparel whilst on duty.
Ensuring safe custody of the civic robes and regalia, ensuring that they are returned to the appropriate locations for safe keeping after use
Ceremonial duties at key civic events
To undertake tours of the Town Hall for members of the public and visiting organisations, detailing the history of the building and civic regalia.
Reporting directly to the Senior Democratic Services Officer, you will play a key role in a team that supports its first Citizen.

The role is annualised hours
