What you will be doing
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Materials Engineer to join the Lifecycle Services team within the Manufacturing Engineering & Materials function, based in Derby.
As a Materials Engineer , you will provide knowledge and expertise to support fleet safety and reliability, via the application of materials science and ‘forensic-style’ analysis of failed components (or systems) by developing a fundamental failure mode understanding to feed into service management and future programmes. You will collaborate with other internal departments, specialists, external customers and governing bodies.

Responsibilities
You will resolve investigations through evaluative methods and technical knowledge/justification. You will also:
- Analyse factual information from multiple sources, interpret results and identify effective solutions by applying your own technical knowledge, expertise and engineering judgement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to identify all information pertinent to the investigation, liaise with other departments for route cause understanding and present results to customers.
- Be responsible for defined technical packages of work providing leadership and delivery against programme milestones within agreed costs, timescales and quality requirements.
- Be a point of contact within Materials Engineering and to share subject matter knowledge across the function. This may include providing advisory services to designated customers, influencing their peer group, representing senior departmental staff and acting as advisor / coach on matters where they are technically authoritative.
- Understand company business objectives and ensure that the work they do supports this; to act in accordance with both the company values and those associated with being a professional engineer.
- Actively promote, encourage and support the identification and implementation of continuous improvement both within and outside their immediate sphere and prompt action across the wider team.

- Bachelor's degree, Master's or PhD in Science and/or Engineering disciplines.
- An ability to apply logical, analytical and innovative thinking to a range of technical problems.
- Knowledge and experience of product integrity / product safety / liability and certification frameworks.
- Ability to work with a team but also capable of working independently
- Membership in a relevant professional body appropriate to the region. In the UK - attained / working towards Chartered status is preferred.
- Knowledge and experience of laboratory equipment (e.g. SEMs) is preferred but not essential.
