Our Health in Justice service line is now expanding into non-Custodial healthcare, a person-centred approach delivered via a solid and consolidated infrastructure aimed to assess individuals’ mental health and neurodiversity requirements, to redirect them to the most appropriate channel. We have an exciting opportunity for a Magistrates Court Practitioner to join our team in West Yorkshire.

Hours-
Monday to Friday: 8am - 6pm
Some weekend working may be required


Salary-
This position is full time and you will receive a salary of £42,094 to £47446 depending on experience

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

What you'll be doing

As a Magistrates Court Practitioner, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Be an experienced practitioner with experience completing assessments and support plans for individuals attending the local Magistrates Court. The assessment will focus on the needs of the service user from a health and social perspective, focusing on an all-vulnerability model.

  • The role of the practitioner is to support the service user through the Magistrates Court process, providing advice and use the information from assessment to provide a report to the courts to support onward decision making of those working within the court system, communicating any reasonable adjustments and providing options to the court staff as appropriate.

  • You are required to undertake assessments of vulnerable people who have been detained in police or Court custody and share relevant information to assist and inform the Police, Court and Crown Prosecution Service decision making with regards to charge and sentence and to share information about vulnerable people with other agencies to ensure risk is managed effectively and vulnerable people are safeguarded.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Evidence of working with service users with vulnerabilities, such as mental health, substance misuse, criminal justice
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Be a registered mental health nurse or social worker
  • Excellent at writing quality reports to present to Police, Courts & Crown Prosecution Services
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • A non-judgmental and compassionate approach
  • Excellent communication skills
