Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Locum Registrar to support services across General Medicine, with rotations or duties in Geriatric Medicine, Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Respiratory Medicine, and Stroke Medicine. The post-holder will work under consultant supervision, providing high-quality care to adult inpatients and acute admissions, as well as participating in ward rounds, on-call rotas, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
This position is offered through a locum agency and may be based at any NHS Trust across the UK, depending on service needs and candidate preferences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical assessment and management of patients admitted to General Medicine, including those in Respiratory, Stroke, and Geriatric wards.
- Participate in consultant-led ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Manage acute admissions in the Acute Medical Unit (AMU).
- Support timely discharge planning and documentation.
- Perform necessary procedures as appropriate (e.g., pleural aspiration, NG insertion, etc.).
- Participate in the medical on-call rota (including evenings, nights, and weekends).
- Ensure accurate, timely documentation in electronic and paper medical records.
- Contribute to the teaching and supervision of junior doctors, medical students, and nursing staff.
- Adhere to Trust policies, clinical guidelines, and infection control standards.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements:
- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent)
- Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a license to practise
- Minimum 2 years of UK experience at ST3+ level or equivalent in General/Internal Medicine
- Relevant experience in Geriatrics, Respiratory, Stroke, and Acute Medicine
- Competent in managing acutely unwell medical patients
- Valid Right to Work in the UK
- Enhanced DBS clearance on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
- ALS certification (or equivalent)
Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
- MRCP (UK) or working towards it
- NHS e-Portfolio familiarity
- SCE or Diploma in Geriatric or Stroke Medicine
- Ultrasound/pleural procedure experience in Respiratory settings
- Experience using NHS systems (e.g., Cerner, EPIC, ICE, etc.)
