About us:
We are looking for a hostel assistant to join our friendly, dedicated team at our gorgeous bunkhouse in north Skye. This is your opportunity to get to know and promote the wonderful Isle of Skye!
The Cowshed Boutique Bunkhouse is a 34 bed bunkhouse with dorm style accommodation alongside 8 beautiful ensuite ‘pods’, overlooking Uig Bay. We offer fantastic facilities, exceptional hospitality, and incredible views, with a keen eye for style and comfort. https://www.skyecowshed.co.uk/
Uig is a small and friendly village with an excellent general store, a filling station, a hotel, a pub, a restaurant, a couple of take-aways and a brewery. For anything else you need it’s a quick drive to Portree on the best road on the island. It’s the perfect base for the adventurous with easy access to the highlights of the island, and the ferry pier which is the gateway to the Outer Hebrides.

We are a small but strong team. We all support each other here and we are looking for the right candidate to join our team and make it even stronger. We are looking for a versatile individual that has good disposition and attitude to learn new tasks and likes to overcome new challenges.

-An enthusiastic, can-do attitude and an ability to show initiative, with great attention to detail.
-Someone unafraid of changeable Scottish weather conditions!
-Someone professional, flexible and considerate to others, someone who is happy to cover a mixture of shifts and deliver customer service to a high standard.
-An interest in Skye/Scotland, and in getting to know the local area if not already living here.
-A good knowledge of hostelling and how to exceed guest expectation.
-Experience of using computers.
-Ability to work independently as well as in a team. We are a small crew so reliability and great communication is a must.
-Fluency in English.
The Job:
-The most important considerations of the job are the comfort, safety and enjoyment of all guests staying at the property.
-A mixture of reception tasks, cleaning duties, in-house Laundry and occasional DIY duties are required.
-Between 28 and 40 hours of work per week.
-Live-in is compulsory, as being on-call overnight is part of general responsibilities.
-Answering directly to the hostel manager and working together to provide cover at all times.
Live-in:
- Double Room on site in our staff cottage and sharing bathroom and kitchen facilities.
- No rent, no bills.
The job will run initially for almost 4 months from September till January, Exact dates 21st Sep 2025 to 12th January. Then we close the hostel for 3 weeks and reopen on the 30th of January. You could join the team again when we reopen for the high season if you liked the experience and fit well in the team.
