JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer
Hours: 22 hours per week. Days worked to be discussed at interview.
Benefits: 28 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and 1 extra day per year of service up to 5 days, pro rated. Employee pension contribution of 6%. Employee sick leave and family leave benefits.
Salary: £30-35,000 pro rata depending upon skills and experience.
Role description: This is an exciting opportunity to join Base 51, the local charity that has supported young people’s wellbeing in Nottinghamshire for more than 30 years, taking an approach that is compassionate, person-centred, and holistic approach.The role will provide leadership and management for our youth work team and, as a member of the Management Team, contribute to the wider strategy, impact, and sustainability of Base 51. The successful candidate will be a qualified youth worker and an experienced leader and manager.
Duties:
Provide leadership and management to the Base 51 youth work team comprising (currently and subject to change) three Detached Youth Workers, an Outburst Coordinator, and an Outburst Youth Support Worker.
Assess Base 51’s youth work services against accepted best practice, and produce and implement a plan that plays to strengths and addresses areas for development.
Assist with the development of new youth work services that meet local needs, and contribute to the generation of income in support of these.
Ensure accurate and timely monitoring and reporting of all youth work services.
Alongside Detached Youth Workers, deliver 3 detached youth work sessions per week (2 hours per session plus 1.5 hours for travel, pre-brief, and de-brief).
As part of the Base 51 Management Team, contribute to organisational strategy, impact, and sustainability.
As a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), work with other DSLs to provide leadership of, and ensure, safeguarding in Base 51.
Represent and advocate for Base 51 with a range of external stakeholders.
Develop links to other agencies and services and develop partnership working.
Ensure compliance with all relevant organisational policies and arrangements, and all relevant legislation, including those relating to health & safety, safeguarding, and data protection.
Undertake all other reasonable tasks as requested by the Chief Executive.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Qualifications:
Qualified to at least level 2 in a JNC-recognised youth work qualification.
Experience:
Working with children and young people including those who are vulnerable or at risk.
Planning and delivering effective programmes of activity with and for young people.
Managing and leading others.
Working effectively with a range of stakeholders.
Knowledge, skills, and competencies:
Ability to positively engage with children and young people in a variety of settings.
Ability to implement and review programmes of work with children and young people.
Comprehensive understanding of safeguarding best practice.
Understanding and implementing the principles of equality, diversity, and inclusion.
Ability to plan, prioritise and manage own workload.
Ability to motivate others.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends.
