Volunteer Kitchen Youth Worker
Location: The Hive Youth Zone, Birkenhead
Hours: Wednesdays 4PM–8PM and/or Sundays 3PM–7PM (flexible)

About The Hive Youth Zone
The Hive is a charity in Birkenhead providing thousands of young people with somewhere to go, something to do, and someone to talk to. We run exciting activities for ages 8–19 (up to 25 for those with additional needs) and rely on the support of amazing volunteers to help us make a difference.
The Role
We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Kitchen Youth Worker Team, supporting our junior members (ages 8–12) during cooking sessions. This is a brilliant opportunity to share your passion for food, help young people build essential life skills, and be part of a fun, welcoming team.
What you’ll be doing:
- Assisting young people as they learn to prepare simple, healthy meals and snacks
- Encouraging independence, confidence, and safe kitchen practice
- Helping create a supportive and engaging environment
- Being a positive role model and mentor for our young people
What we’re looking for:
- A friendly, approachable attitude and enthusiasm for working with young people
- An interest in cooking (no professional experience required!)
- Reliability and commitment to supporting one or more sessions
- Willingness to undergo training and safeguarding checks (see below)
Requirements for all volunteers:
- Two references
- Enhanced DBS check that covers working with children (provided by The Hive if you don’t already have one)
- Safeguarding training (supplied by The Hive)
