Job Title: Lead Learning Support Assistant (LSA) (Full- time)

Purpose of the Role:
To provide individual support to students with a range of special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) to help them access learning, achieve their goals, and develop independence within a post-16 college environment.
The role will be a full-time position working from the CCi base in Chelmsford. The role requires someone who is flexible and able to travel to students, as and when required, to cover LSA absences and annual leave.
The CCi Lead LSA would take the position of LSA Representative and work closely with the Head of Teaching and Learning, CCi Operations Manager, Administrators and Tutors to ensure collaborative working across the provision.
The role would include supporting the team to conduct observations of LSAs, ensuring that highly effective quality assurance processes are in place using the LSA Best practice guidance and to offer administration support when not working directly with individual students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students aged 16+ with varying SEND, including autism, learning disabilities, and complex needs.
- Work collaboratively with tutors, therapists, and other professionals to implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Provide academic, emotional, and behavioural support, adapting strategies to meet individual needs.
- Promote independence in learning, daily tasks, communication, and mobility (as appropriate).
- Assist students with personal care tasks if required (training provided).
- Support the team in conducting observations of LSAs using the Best Practice Guidance.
- Prepare learning resources and adapt materials to support access to the curriculum.
- As the LSA representative, be responsible for seeking out LSA views and opinions, collating feedback and sharing information (such as ‘LSA updates’ between CCi members of staff and LSAs.
- Support the Head of Teaching and Learning and Operations Manager in organising and monitoring LSA training and development.
- To be a ‘peer mentor’ and assist the Operations Manager in the induction and onboarding processes for new LSAs.
- To assist the Head of Teaching and Learning and Operations Manager in organising LSA social events.
- To assist the Administrative Team in the liaison of relevant partnership providers, to source cover teams for students in the instance of absence.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment where students feel safe and motivated.
- Monitor and record progress, behaviour, and engagement in accordance with college procedures.
- Attend and contribute to reviews, team meetings, and staff training sessions.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably requested to support team and business objectives.
- Uphold the college’s safeguarding policies and promote the welfare of students at all times.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- A confident driver with a clean UK driving licence (mileage and expenses re-imbursed). Business insurance will be required.
- Experience working with young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (minimum 1 year).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and patient in challenging situations.
- Understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable young adults.
- Good IT skills to support students with technology and digital learning tools.
Desirable:
- Relevant qualifications such as Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent.
- Training in Makaton, BSL, or personal care support.
- Experience in a college or post-16 setting.
- Knowledge of EHCPs and how they are implemented in education.
