Job Purpose:
To support the kitchen team in preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals to residents, ensuring high standards of hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety in line with care home policies and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with basic food preparation (e.g., peeling, chopping, plating).
- Help serve meals to residents and ensure dietary requirements are met.
- Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment by washing up, cleaning surfaces, and disposing of waste properly.
- Follow food hygiene and health and safety regulations at all times.
- Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the chef or cook.
- Assist with the delivery and storage of food supplies.
- Work collaboratively with care staff to ensure residents' mealtime needs are supported.
- Report any concerns about residents' nutrition or food preferences to senior staff.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safety.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
Desirable:
- Experience in a care home or similar environment.
- Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above).
- Understanding of dietary needs for elderly or vulnerable individuals.
Personal Qualities:
- Compassionate and respectful toward elderly residents.
- Calm and flexible under pressure.
- Attention to detail and cleanliness.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions.
