In this role, self-motivation is key. You’ll need to prioritise workloads efficiently to meet the demands of fulfilling contacts on the same day.

Expect constant changes and be ready to adapt. Reactivity is essential as you navigate dynamic situations.

This isn’t a desk job. You’ll be out and about, engaging with families and children directly.

What you will be doing

The KIT practitioner's primary role is to supervise keeping in touch sessions whilst Dorset Council are in proceedings with the children and families we are working with.

As a KIT Practitioner, your role involves collaborative work with other staff within Children’s Services. You will supervise and maintain Keeping in Touch reports, which contribute to assessments completed by social work teams. Your primary focus will be promoting the safety, health, and wellbeing of children in our care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • you will maintain succinct and timely records of Keeping in Touch sessions. These records are input into MOSAIC, our computer system for recording
  • quickly establishing professional working relationships is essential. You’ll interact with various stakeholders, including families, colleagues, and community members.
  • you’ll encounter complex situations and must be adept at managing them effectively.
  • the role requires travel between locations, including visits to people’s homes, community settings, and Children’s Centres. All work is subject to ongoing risk assessments and is well supported by the Keeping in Touch management team.

About you

You will:

  • have the skills and aptitude to work with young people and their families in a variety of environments; indoors in the family home or a contact centre, in the community in parks or leisure activities
  • be dependable and reliable and committed to delivering a high quality services to our children and families.
  • you may already be employed in the child care or people work environment.

It is important that you have:

  • experience of or a real interest in working with children and young people;
  • excellent written and spoken English;
  • excellent communication skills
  • the potential to build positive professional relationships and earn trust;
  • the ability to think creatively and respond to changing situations;
  • Energy and patience.

We have both full time and part time hours available in various locations across Dorset. We’re happy to consider part-time arrangements, but this must be a minimum of 16 hours worked across at least 2 days, typically between 8am and 6pm.
