QTS are looking to recruit a junior surveyor to join our well-established survey department but will also accept applications from experienced assistants looking to take the next step in their career.
This role would best suit someone with a good basic knowledge of topographic surveying/setting out who is looking to add to their skills and learn from an experienced and multi-skilled survey team.
QTS is a company that has continued to invest heavily in the survey department with the purchase of new Leica TS16 total stations, Leica AP20, Leica GS18t GPS kits, automated monitoring system, DJI M300 and M350 drones with a variety of payloads. This continued investment will provide you with the opportunity to gain experience in the latest survey equipment.
Anyone who joins the QTS survey department should be prepared to work as part of a growing dedicated team and must be focused, motivated and ready to commit to the role.
Most of the survey/engineering work at QTS is railway based; we will however accept candidates with no railway background in which case you will be trained to PTS level with a long-term plan of training up to COSS level. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a move into the industry with scope for progression within the survey department.
Skills required:
- Full UK driving license.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in surveying/setting out with the desire to further progress a career in Surveying within the UK Rail Industry.
- Working knowledge using Total Stations (Leica preferred but not limited to), GPS, levelling equipment.
- Basic understanding of topographical surveying, setting out, setting up control networks, traversing, etc
- Keen to develop skills in preparing and processing survey data and producing 3D plans and models in LSS/ Autocad software
- An interest in the latest technology and be prepared to take on new challenges.
- Organised, results driven and with good attention to detail.
- Willing to work as part of a team and be open to training/learning as their career progresses.
- Prepared to help with weekend/night shift working when required and occasional working away from home.
- Suitable level of health/fitness to carry out the role on site is required.

- Knowledge/Understanding of Excel spreadsheets would be beneficial.
- Experience working in UK engineering/rail industry (preferred but not essential).
- PTS preferred but not essential.
