Human Resources Advisor

Smart
£38,629 - £48,913 a year
City of London, England

At Smart, our mission is to transform retirement, savings and financial wellbeing, across all generations, around the world.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a confident and proactive HR Advisor with 1–2 years’ hands-on experience supporting key HR processes. This role is ideal for someone who has moved beyond an administrative support function and is ready to advise managers and employees on matters such as capability, disciplinary and performance improvement processes.

Responsibilities:

Employee Relations

  • Provide first-line advice and support to managers and employees on a range of employee relations issues including disciplinary, capability, grievance and performance improvement plans (PIPs).

  • Act as the HR representative in formal meetings, ensuring compliance with company policies and employment law.

  • Lead on cases from start to finish, including drafting letters, meeting notes, outcome letters, and documentation packs.

HR Process Guidance

  • Clearly explain and guide stakeholders through the steps involved in HR processes.

  • Ensure processes are followed consistently and fairly and escalate complex or high-risk matters to senior HR colleagues when appropriate.

  • Maintain case documentation and ensure accurate records are kept.

Manager Support

  • Coach and guide line managers through the appropriate handling of employee relations issues, balancing commercial needs with best practice and legal compliance.

  • Provide feedback and learning opportunities to line managers to build capability and confidence.

Policy & Procedure

  • Ensure HR policies are consistently applied.

  • Identify any policy gaps or areas for improvement based on case experience and suggest updates.

HR Administration & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate HR records and case logs.

  • Contribute to regular reporting on ER metrics, trends, and risks.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The skills, experience, and aptitudes we are looking for are listed below but please don’t be discouraged from applying if you don’t meet every single one of these criteria – having a ‘can do’ attitude is sometimes more important than being able to tick every box:

  • 1–2 years’ demonstrable experience in an HR role with direct involvement in ER processes (beyond note-taking).

  • Working knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practices.

  • Confident and articulate communicator – able to guide others through processes with clarity.

  • Experience handling or supporting processes such as, disciplinary investigations, capability and performance cases (including PIPs) & redundancy consultations.

  • Proactive, organised, and comfortable managing multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Strong written skills for drafting meeting notes, letters, and reports.
