We are seeking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and dedicated HR, Recruitment and Payroll Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will need to be able to respond to the HR, recruitment and payroll duties and other general duties as set out in the job description, on a daily basis in an effective, efficient and responsive manner using your own initiative.
Job purpose
To provide an efficient and effective HR, recruitment, and payroll administration service to the school.
This role includes oversight of staff recruitment, HR record-keeping, payroll processing, compliance, and general administration. The successful candidate will be integral to ensuring smooth operational processes and a professional experience for staff throughout their employment lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Staff Recruitment
- Administer and manage all stages of the recruitment process including job adverts, interview scheduling, candidate correspondence, and onboarding.
- Ensure job advertisements and application packs are accurate, professional, and in line with school branding.
- Handle reference checks, safeguarding verifications (including DBS), and compliance with safer recruitment procedures.
- Maintain accurate records for recruitment and prepare necessary reports, including staff turnover and exit data.
HR Record Keeping
- Process staff changes, produce new or updated contracts of employment, monitor sickness absence, and coordinate occupational health referrals.
- Manage the Single Central Record (SCR) and ensure compliance with safeguarding requirements.
- Coordinate training records and support staff development administration.
- Support induction and probation processes for new staff.
- Provide general HR support and act as a point of contact for staff queries.
Payroll Processing
- Support the monthly payroll process by collating and submitting changes, checking reports, and liaising with the payroll provider (currently Torbay Council).
- Maintain accurate records of pay progression and allowances.
- Issue annual salary statements to teaching staff.
Compliance and General Administration
- Ensure all documentation and data are handled in compliance with GDPR.
- Contribute to the school’s compliance with employment law and safeguarding procedures.
- Maintain and improve administrative systems and assist with general office duties as required.

Pay: £14,500.00 per year
