Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and proactive HGV Workshop Supervisor who will ensure maximum fleet availability, and all inspections are compliant with current DVSA rules and regulations. They will oversee the day to day running of the Vehicle Maintenance Units (VMUs) and managing the VMU personnel, considering their experience, capability, and competence to complete tasks, mentoring and developing affectively. Through first line supervision, you will control daily throughput of maintenance inspections and repair work to VOR fleet. Always ensuring full legal and safety compliance.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- A valid and relevant level 3 HGV technical qualification
- Proven experience as a Workshop Manager, Senior Technician, or in a similar leadership role within an HGV or commercial vehicle workshop
- Full UK driving licence with CE entitlement preferred
- Mechanically hands on, with good technical knowledge on heavy goods vehicles. You will be the first port of call to assist the VMU team diagnosing and rectifying complex issues
- Be a confident and capable manager to supervise a team of skilled HGV technicians and support staff, ensuring high levels of performance, quality, and adherence to health and safety regulations
- Competent IT skills, especially with MS Office applications (experience using R2C an advantage)
- Flexible and adaptable to changes in a demanding environment
- Be able to prioritise workloads and react to changes accordingly
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively
- To have excellent communication skills and ability to liaise verbally confidently with all employees and senior management
Key Accountabilities:
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of the HGV fleet, ensuring compliance with all legal, safety, and industry standards
- Monitor competency and performance of VMU personnel, mentoring, developing and implementing training plans using all available internal and external resources
- Actively manage/supervise VMU staff with optimal task allocation, hiring, rota management, absence and disciplinary matters
- Appraise fleet assets, to assist in the process of refurbishment, repairs, and disposals
- Liaise with internal/external stakeholders and departments to ensure vehicle downtime is minimised and fleet availability is maximised
- Ensure all fleet disposals are completed in accordance with agreed standards
- To manage workshop quality control to industry standards
- Conduct on and off hire quality checks to all fleet prior to implementation and release
- Audit/monitor suppliers with regards to technical performance, professional standards, and Health & Safety
- Ensure any warranty work is followed up, monitored, and documented
- Identify key processes and work on improving workshop flow and streamline fleet standards
- Work to Key performance indicator (KPIs) targets and deliver the VMU financial requirements (budgets)
- Ensure all VMU equipment is maintained, serviced and has relevant safety certification
Health & Safety:
- Ensure a safe working environment by enforcing compliance with all relevant health and safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices
- To promptly report all accidents and incidents
- To assist in accident investigations as necessary
- To ensure that general housekeeping standards are maintained
- To adhere to relevant site rules, QEHS policies and procedures including quality procedures, HACCP, safe systems of work and environmental controls.
