Part-time (21 hours per week, 0.6 FTE) – working pattern to be confirmed, no weekends required.

The Corporate and Professional Services departments are the cornerstone of the University. They each provide essential and valuable support to both each other and the Academic departments, helping the University to function in the most efficient and productive way, ensuring that the students’ experience is second to none.

The Health & Fitness Coordinator reports to the Student Union Manager and Sports Coordinator and is responsible for leading a dynamic and inclusive Health & Fitness Programme for the Buckingham Campus.

Key duties include managing the Tanlaw Mill Fitness Centre and Exercise Studio, developing and promoting a varied calendar of health and fitness activities, leading fitness classes, overseeing gym operations, and promoting an active campus culture amongst students and staff.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Coordinating and delivering a diverse Health & Fitness Programme
  • Leading fitness sessions and activities, including personal training and health coaching
  • Managing gym memberships, inductions, and online registration processes
  • Organising and promoting fitness events, challenges, and workshops
  • Recruiting and training Fitness Centre Supervisors and external instructors
  • Managing the maintenance, servicing, and safe operation of gym equipment
  • Marketing health and fitness initiatives through digital and traditional media
  • Monitoring and managing the Fitness Centre's use, safety, and performance

Experience and Knowledge

Level 2 qualified fitness instructor or above, perferably a certified Personal Trainer

Exercise class instructor e.g. yoga, pilates, boxercise, tai chi, Qigong etc

Previous experience working in a Health & Fitness setting e.g. leisure centre, health club, gym.


Communication

The ability to engage and inspire others through words and action

The ability to vary communication styles for different audiences e.g. different ages, genders, fitness levels, or experience levels

The ability to write reports succiently and clearly.

Liaison

A personal network within the health and fitness community of Buckingham, Buckinghamshire or nationally.

An awareness of opportunities to access external grant funding to further enhance our offer.

Decision Making

The ability to make sensible business decisions based on solid research and due diligence.

Initiative

The confidence to try new things and implement new ideas.

Insight or willingness to research into the future of the Health and Fitness industry and align our offer to meet future need.
