JOB DESCRIPTION – CARE ASSISTANT

Responsible to: Team Leader, Senior, Deputy and Registered Manager or any other member of staff informed by the registered manager.

Purpose of Position:

To provide duty cover in the Home. To undertake certain domestic duties that can be performed during night hours.

To share with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of residents in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence.

To take delegated responsibilities in the charge of the residents under your care, to the appropriate level.

Principal Responsibilities

· Give support and care to the residents whilst maintaining their rights to independence, privacy, dignity, and choice

· To read care plans and sign each one to state you have read and understood the individuals needs, life story and medical history.

· Assist with preparing residents for bed and/or assist them in the morning.

· Assist residents who require help to dress/undress, wash, bath and use the toilet. Ensuring any prescribed soaps or creams are used and staff member applying the ointment signs the relevant documentation.

· Assist residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities including the use and care of aids and personal equipment.

· Assist residents who need help with personal hygiene e.g. incontinence.

· Administer medication (once trained) as required.

· Assist in the care of residents who are unwell or receiving end of life care.

· Carry out regular well-being checks of every 2 hours on residents at intervals determined by the Line Manager and / or Registered Manager and with due regard to residents’ privacy and dignity.

· Monitor the needs of the residents, informing a senior member of staff on duty or the on-call Manager of any emergency situation or concern about their well being.

· Answer call bells, emergency bells, the door and the telephone: greet visitors.

· Be aware of residents whereabouts at all times.

· Carry out regular checks of the building with special reference to fire prevention and Ensure that the Home is secure, all fire doors closed and external doors and windows locked and machinery switched off.

· End of Life Residents to be checked regularly whilst you are on duty , the checking time will be specified and documented on every handover

· To Complete all delegated documentation in a timely factual manner detailing all assistance required.

· Provide outstanding care to those in your care at all times

· To liaise and welcome visitors at all times

· To ensure care plans are read and signed so you are able to give Outstanding Care

· Make and change beds, tidy rooms, do light cleaning and empty commodes.

· Open curtains , blinds and windows to air the bedrooms ensuring all rooms are left clean with beds make correctly and neatly.

· Laundry , to wash and put away clothing in correct rooms

· Complete and record Key Worker Duties

· To escort Individuals to appointments if family are unable to do so

To assist with the cleaning of the Home, as directed by the senior member of staff on duty, ensuring that the home always meets high standards of cleanliness and hygiene. This will usually include:

· Tidy up lounge, disinfecting all chairs correctly , woodwork and windowsills

· Tidy the dining room and offices, sweeping and mopping with disinfectant including reception area small lounge, toilets and shower room.

· Set tables in dining room, sweep and mop in preparation for breakfast.

· Prepare drinks, snacks, make early morning hot drinks for the residents as required.

· Sanitize surfaces in the kitchen and mop the floor – ensure the hot water urn is filled up ready for hot drinks at all times.

· Receive, record and communicate information and messages in accordance with the Home’s procedures

· Maintain all residents’ records and give and receive written / verbal reports, whilst ensuring confidentiality

· Take part in staff and residents meetings and also in training activities as required.

· Complete NVQ 2 in care or the equivalent. Attend all training provided to you by the Company and all Mandatory training

· Attend and participate in regular staff meetings , formal supervision and appraisal sessions

· Be aware of and adhere to Mapleford Nursing care home’s policies and procedures.

In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by the manager from time to time.

Pay: £12.21 per hour
