Portland House Care Home is a 32-bedded home, a pleasantly appointed Victorian property set within landscaped gardens, the home is within easy access to both Shrewsbury town centre and main arterial routes. Our services include care for nursing residents, palliative care, respite care, and dementia care.’
We are seeking a dedicated Health Care Assistant to provide high-quality, person-centred care to our residents. This frontline role involves assisting with daily living activities, promoting dignity and independence, and working closely with residents, their families, and the wider care team to ensure comfort, safety, and well-being in a warm and supportive environment.
The role as Health Care Assistant will include, but not be limited to:
· Provide personal care and support to residents using a person-centered approach, always working under the direction and supervision of senior staff to ensure each individual's needs are met with dignity and respect.
· Assist residents with a range of personal care tasks including getting up in the morning and going to bed at night, washing, bathing, showering, dressing, undressing, and general grooming such as caring for their skin, teeth, hair, and nails.
· Support residents in managing their toileting and continence needs, ensuring high standards of personal hygiene are maintained at all times.
· Help meet the nutritional needs of residents, being mindful of individual dietary preferences and cultural requirements during mealtimes and daily routines.
· Operate manual handling equipment safely and correctly, following proper techniques to prevent injury and support resident mobility with care.
· Support residents in staying connected with family and friends and accompany them on outings and trips into the community when needed, helping to promote inclusion and social engagement.
· Take on the responsibility of acting as a Key Worker for a designated resident, offering consistent support and advocacy tailored to their individual needs and preferences.
Requirements:
· Minimum 1 year of experience working with adults in nursing or residential care settings
· Strong knowledge of care plans and experience maintaining accurate care documentation
· Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with legible handwriting
· Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with care-related digital systems
· Compassionate, empathetic, and person-centred approach to care
· Good understanding of current care practices and industry standards
