Join us, be part of more.

We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels, whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team

The Chief Customer Office (CCO) exists to drive commercial growth across all of Centrica Retail through focus on world class customer experience and highly attractive and compelling product and service propositions.

We’re looking for a passionate and strategic Head of SEO to drive organic growth for our brands. Working across all UK Centrica retail brands — from British Gas, a brand rich in heritage with a bold new brand platform built for future growth, to Hive, our innovative eco-tech brand leading the way in smart home sustainability — you’ll help develop onsite growth strategies to bring more customers in effectively and efficiently with SEO and SEM.

About your role:

This role is pivotal in enhancing our online presence and ensuring our content reaches the right audience. The Head of SEO will be responsible for developing and implementing effective SEO strategies, managing an inhouse team and agency team as well as collaborating with various departments to achieve our business goals. A key aspect of this role is to reduce reliance on external agency resources by building and strengthening in-house SEO capabilities.

What will you be doing?

  • Strategic Planning:
Develop and execute comprehensive SEO strategies to improve organic search rankings and drive traffic to the British Gas and Hive websites.

  • Identify Opportunities: Conduct thorough keyword research and analysis to identify opportunities for content optimisation and new content creation.

  • Technical SEO: Oversee and lead on the technical SEO aspects of the websites, including site architecture, crawlability, and indexation.

  • Collaborate with content creators to ensure SEO best practices are integrated into all content development processes.

  • Performance reporting: Monitor and analyse website performance using SEO tools and analytics platforms, providing regular reports and insights to stakeholders.

  • Keep up to date with the latest SEO trends, algorithm updates, and industry best practices.

  • Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of three SEO specialists, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.

  • Growth alignment: Work closely with the marketing, product, and development teams to align SEO efforts with overall business objectives.

Here's
what we’re looking for:

As a brilliant and experienced SEO Lead, you’ll bring a proven track record of driving organic growth and improving search rankings for market-leading organisations, backed by deep technical SEO expertise, proficiency in tools like Adobe Analytics, Google Search Console, and SEMrush, strong analytical capabilities, excellent communication and collaboration skills, as well as demonstrated leadership in managing and developing high-performing teams.

In addition:

  • Analytical Skills: The SEO Lead must be able to analyse website performance data, keyword research, and other SEO metrics to identify opportunities and issues. This involves using tools like Adobe Analytics, Google Search Console and SEMrush.

  • Judgment and Reasoning: The role requires making informed decisions based on data analysis and industry trends. This includes deciding on the best strategies for improving search rankings and driving organic traffic.

  • Creativity and Innovation: Given the dynamic nature of SEO, the SEO Lead must be able to think creatively to develop new strategies and solutions that align with the latest SEO trends and algorithm updates.

  • Collaboration and Communication: Effective decision-making in this role also involves collaborating with content creators, marketing, product, and development teams to ensure that SEO efforts are aligned with overall business objectives.

  • Leadership: As the role involves managing a team of three SEO specialists, the SEO Lead must be able to provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities, which requires strong leadership and decision-making skills.
