About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Furnace Technician / Electrical Team Leader to join our maintenance team. This role is pivotal in improving furnace reliability through proactive maintenance, instrument calibration, and thermocouple management. An ideal candidate will be a qualified Electrician with instrumentation experience and a strong background in furnace repair.
You will lead and coordinate the electrical maintenance team, oversee contractors, support apprentices, and deputise for the Maintenance Manager as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Improve furnace reliability and oversee furnace survey schedules
- Plan, organise, and supervise furnace instrument calibration and thermocouple programs
- Conduct daily furnace checks, ensuring all furnaces operate within qualification specifications; sign off charts and maintain detailed logs
- Respond to and repair furnace faults promptly to minimise downtime
- Perform weekly System Accuracy Tests (SATS) on qualified furnaces and maintain accurate documentation
- Carry out monthly preventative maintenance on a rolling schedule across all furnaces
- Manufacture, calibrate, re-calibrate Type R thermocouples and replace Type K thermocouples; maintain registers for all
- Issue and maintain certificates of calibration for furnaces and thermocouples, detailing location, issue date, and next calibration due
- Keep comprehensive calibration records and compliance documentation
- Lead and plan workloads for electricians, contractors, and apprentices
- Attend and contribute to weekly maintenance and production meetings
- Deputise for Maintenance Management when required
- Provide electrical and instrumentation support across departments as needed
What We’re Looking For
- Qualified Electrician, preferably with instrumentation expertise
- Proven furnace repair and maintenance experience
- Knowledge of thermocouple types and calibration procedures (Type R and Type K)
- Excellent organisational skills with a focus on safety and compliance
- Leadership or supervisory experience, with the ability to mentor and support team members
- Proactive, reliable, and solution-oriented approach
