REPORTING TO: Head of Fundraising
WORKING HOURS: 37.5 hours per week (including occasional evenings and weekends)

Overview
Born from the loss of Reuben Michael Graham in August 2012 at just 23 months old, Reuben's Retreat is a charity offering practical and emotional support to families of child loss and families who have a child living with medical complexities.
Our Retreat is a sanctuary offering a space for families to relax, recharge, remember, and rebuild, and our aim is to relieve the distress of these families, walking side by side with them on their journey.
The Role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, and hard-working individual to join our fundraising team as a Fundraising Champion. This is a fast-paced and varied role where you’ll help deliver events, develop relationships with supporters, and contribute to income generation across the organisation.
Whether you have experience in fundraising or come from a background in business development, events, or customer engagement, we’re open to hearing from you. You’ll be a team player with a warm approach, a passion for people, and a strong belief in our cause.
You’ll work closely with the Head of Fundraising, colleagues across departments, and our CEO to help achieve Reuben’s Retreat’s wider fundraising goals.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising & Supporter Engagement
- Deliver personal income targets from new and existing supporters, contributing to the overall fundraising strategy.
- Help achieve annual income targets aligned to departmental strategy, tracking progress and contributing to team performance.
- Develop and manage a range of fundraising initiatives and events, from idea to delivery and evaluation.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community groups, corporate partners, donors, and volunteers.
- Research and approach new fundraising prospects, presenting tailored and engaging proposals.
- Represent Reuben’s Retreat at meetings, talks, and networking events, promoting our mission and values.
Event Planning & Delivery
- Project-manage charity and community fundraising events, ensuring they run smoothly and meet income goals.
- Support volunteers and participants involved in fundraising events or campaigns.
- Collaborate with colleagues on event promotion, marketing, and supporter communications.
- Ensure fundraising materials, thank-you, and post-event stewardship are carried out effectively.
Team Contribution & Operations
- Work collaboratively with colleagues across the charity, contributing to a positive team culture.
- Ensure all donations and data are recorded accurately in line with internal systems and GDPR.
- Contribute to the production of fundraising content and materials.
- Maintain records of income, activity, and relationships using appropriate databases or tools.
Compliance & Best Practice
- Ensure all fundraising activity is compliant with charity law, GDPR, and industry best practices.
- Reduce costs by sourcing in-kind support where possible.
- Promote ethical, responsible fundraising and act as a positive ambassador for the charity at all times.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Skills & Experience
- Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
- Experience of working towards financial targets, ideally within fundraising, events, or sales
- A track record of planning and delivering projects or events from start to finish
- Confident in presenting to a range of audiences and adapting communication style
- Strong organisational and administrative skills
- Able to work independently, take initiative, and manage a varied workload
- Competent with Microsoft Office and comfortable using social media platforms
Desirable (But Not Essential)
- Experience working in a fundraising or charity role
- Familiarity with CRM systems or supporter databases
- Knowledge of local communities and the voluntary sector
- Understanding of fundraising techniques such as corporate giving, events, and community engagement
- Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle for local travel
