About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Fibre Optic Splicer to join our growing installation team. In this hands-on role, you’ll be responsible for splicing, testing, and connecting fibre optic cables within BT Openreach infrastructure, helping to build and maintain our ultrafast broadband network. This is a field-based position requiring strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out risk assessments prior to starting work.
- Install, splice, and secure fibre distribution points both underground and on telegraph poles.
- Interpret job packs and fibre allocation tables to navigate and build the network.
- Install and splice splitters in broadband cabinets using automatic fusion splicers.
- Complete and photograph fibre distribution points (internally and externally) for build completion.
- Work safely using gate guards and appropriate signage.
- Use OTDR, light source, and power meter to carry out acceptance testing.
- Trace and rectify any faults found during or after installation.
- Take responsibility for issued tools and assigned vehicle, following the Trooli vehicle policy.
Experience required
- Minimum 3 years of fibre optic splicing experience within BT Openreach infrastructure (overhead and underground).
- Proven track record of high-quality splicing work.
- Strong references demonstrating technical skill and reliability.
- Familiarity with BT Openreach standards, including underground safety, working at height, and confined spaces.
