We would like to announce a brand-new role within Bayleaf Care (Children’s Homes), a Family Liaison Officer. This is a very exciting role that shows Bayleaf’s commitment not just to providing the best possible care to the young people we support, but also their families. This role demonstrates how we are innovative in our approach to care, continually raising standards, setting us apart from other children’s home providers.
The role is predominately based at our head office in Burton on Trent.
Salary £32,000 plus £3,000 car allowance
About Bayleaf Care
Bayleaf Care provides exceptional care for children and young people across the UK, especially those who have faced trauma. We use the PACE model, which creates a safe, caring environment to help children feel secure and build positive relationships.
We have homes that look after young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties and children’s home that specifically care for young people with learning disabilities and physical disabilities.
Our approach starts with the key worker, who forms a strong, trusting bond with the child. This relationship is essential for the child’s development and continues throughout their care.
We offer personalized care, education, and treatment led by a team of trained professionals, helping children manage their emotions and behaviours in a safe, supportive environment.
There are currently 3 children’s homes open, with another 2 homes due to open by late spring and a further 2 homes opening by Autumn.
Each children’s home has their own permanent on-site therapist and a pool car.
Purpose of the Role:
To act as the dedicated point of contact for families of children and young people living in Bayleaf Care’s residential children’s homes. The Family Liaison Officer supports families from the point of referral through to placement and beyond, ensuring clear communication, emotional reassurance, and meaningful involvement throughout the young person’s care journey.
The role also includes planning and coordinating family events and celebrations within the homes to strengthen family relationships and create shared, positive experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Commissioning Manager from the beginning of the referral process to engage and support families.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with families, LA, the company and act as the main point of contact throughout the child's or young person’s placement.
- Facilitate regular updates, phone calls, meetings, and family visits, supporting both the family and the home staff.
- Arrange and coordinate key family events and celebrations (e.g., birthdays, seasonal gatherings, cultural celebrations) across the children’s homes.
- Support families in understanding care plans, education pathways (including EHCPs), therapeutic strategies, and behavioural support approaches.
- Attend and contribute to pre-placement meetings, reviews, and other multi-agency planning forums.
- Facilitate safe, structured family contact in line with care plans, risk assessments, and safeguarding guidance.
- Travel between children’s homes, family homes, and external venues as needed to maintain family engagement.
- Early intervention and support: Identifying and supporting children and management team and families social, emotional, or behavioural issues.
- Facilitating communication and collaboration between families, school staff, and external agencies. Working with children, LA and families to manage behaviour issues and promote positive behaviour strategies
- Working with families to overcome obstacles that may be hindering a child's progress and living
- Providing guidance and support during key transitions.
- Working to improve school attendance and reduce absenteeism.
Person Specification:
Essential:
- Experience working in children’s social care, education, or family support services.
- Understanding of the needs of children and young people with Learning Disabilities and Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally.
- Experience working with families, including managing expectations and providing emotional support.
- Willingness to work flexibly, including travel between homes and occasional out-of-hours support for events or visits.
- Working knowledge of safeguarding protocols and professional boundaries.
Desirable:
- NVQ Level 3 (or above) in Children & Young People, Health & Social Care, or related qualification.
- Experience in a family liaison, key worker, advocacy, or placement coordination role.
- Familiarity with EHCPs, trauma-informed care, and positive behaviour support approaches.
- Understanding of Ofsted regulations relating to children’s homes.
Additional Information:
- This role is based across Bayleaf Care’s children’s homes and may include travel to meet with families or attend professional meetings so a car driver is essential.
