Job Overview:
The Domiciliary Health Care Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality care and support to individuals in their own homes. The role involves assisting clients with daily living activities, promoting their independence, and ensuring their safety and well-being. This is a vital role for individuals who require help due to age, disability, or illness. Compassion, reliability, and patience are key traits for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Personal Care: Assist clients with bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting as required.
- Medication Support: Administer or prompt clients to take their prescribed medication, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
- Mobility Assistance: Help clients move around safely, including assistance with walking aids, wheelchairs, and getting in and out of bed.
- Meal Preparation: Prepare meals in line with dietary requirements and preferences, ensuring clients have adequate nutrition.
- Household Duties: Perform light housework tasks such as laundry, vacuuming, dusting, and keeping the client’s home clean and safe.
- Companionship: Provide emotional support and companionship to clients, engaging them in conversation and activities.
- Health Monitoring: Observe and record any changes in the client’s condition or behavior, reporting concerns to the appropriate healthcare professionals.
- Care Planning: Follow individualized care plans tailored to each client’s specific needs and adjust care as necessary in consultation with healthcare professionals.
- Support with Appointments: Assist clients in attending medical appointments, social activities, or errands when needed.
- End-of-Life Care: Provide compassionate support to clients in palliative or end-of-life care.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience in a domiciliary, healthcare, or personal care role is preferred but not essential, as full training will be provided.
- Qualification: NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent (desirable but not required).
- Driving License: A valid UK driving license and access to a car (required for travel between client homes).
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage clients with dignity and respect.
- Empathy: A caring and compassionate nature, with a genuine desire to help others.
- Teamwork: Ability to work independently and as part of a team, following instructions and care plans effectively.
- Organizational Skills: Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to perform tasks that involve physical activity such as lifting, bending, and supporting clients with mobility needs.
