The surgery is located in a modern building in the heart of Ombersley village with extensive parking available. The practice is also a research practice, a training practice, and a member practice Droitwich and Ombersley Primary Care Network.

The following are the core responsibilities of the Dispensing Assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
· To be responsible for checking all medicines dispensed, ensuring there are no discrepancies
· Dispensing medicines to the entitled population safely and accurately. Where there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, dose or labelling instructions, this should be checked with the prescribing/duty GP
· Collecting prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol
· Maintaining stock levels within the dispensary, liaising with the Clinical Pharmacist to facilitate reordering and reducing wastage through out of date stock
· Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable
· Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed with in accordance with practice policy
· Safe disposal of returned and / or out of date medicines
· Ensuring all repeat prescriptions are processed within a 48-hour timeframe
· Providing patients with advice regarding all prescription matters and referring to the Clinical Pharmacist or duty GP if unsure
· Process prescription requests via email, phone, fax, face-to-face and online
· Processing Dossett boxes
· Assisting the Clinical Pharmacist in the preparation of monthly returns including PPA claims, endorsing all prescription forms as appropriate
· Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times
· Maintain accurate records at all times, read coding entries appropriately
· Take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time
· Be aware of the key differences in working in a dispensing GP practice compared to community pharmacies.
· Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead
· Provide guidance for trainee dispensary staff and students as necessary
· Remain current with the latest guidance ensuring the dispensary conforms to NICE, CQC etc guidance
· Undertake any additional tasks as instructed by the Clinical Pharmacist/Practice Managers/Partners
Full training will be provided.
