Disability Support Worker
About the Role:
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Disability Support Worker looking to transfer their skills into the classroom. In this role, you will provide one-to-one support to pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and non-verbal communication needs. You will play a vital role in helping our students access their learning, engage in activities, and improve their quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide personalised support to pupils with PMLD, ASD, and non-verbal communication needs.
- Assist in daily activities, both in the classroom and outside, promoting independence where possible.
- Work closely with teaching staff and other professionals to implement individual plans and learning strategies.
- Provide emotional and physical support, ensuring the well-being and safety of each pupil.
- Foster a caring, patient, and supportive environment for students to thrive.
- Help with personal care routines as required, in a dignified and respectful manner.
Key Requirements:
- Previous experience in supporting children or adults with disabilities, particularly PMLD, ASD, and non-verbal needs, is highly desirable.
- A relevant qualification such as a Teaching Assistant (TA) qualification, Care qualification, or equivalent is required.
- Demonstrated compassion, patience, and empathy when working with vulnerable individuals.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team, alongside teachers, therapists, and other support staff.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to adapt to different forms of communication.
- A positive, resilient attitude and the ability to manage challenging situations calmly.
Location - Whitehaven
Hours - 8.30-3.30 Monday to Friday. (Part time applications also welcomed)

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
