Location: Haywards Heath, West Sussex
Position: Full-Time, Temp to Permanent
Start Date: September Start Date
Salary: £92 per day, PAYE | Hours: 08:40 – 15:55, Monday to Friday, Term Time Only

About the Setting:

The school based in Hayward's Heath caters specifically for boys with SEMH needs and associated challenges. The team is dedicated to delivering a holistic education that supports not just academic progress, but emotional growth and wellbeing. Pupils are supported within a calm, structured environment where relationships are at the heart of learning and development.

The Role:

As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in helping pupils access learning, regulate their emotions and build confidence in themselves. You’ll work closely with teaching and therapy staff to support students on both a one-to-one basis and in small groups. Every day brings new opportunities to make a tangible difference to a young person’s life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.

  • Support emotional regulation, positive behaviour and social development.

  • Assist in the implementation of personalised learning strategies.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.

  • Promote a safe, inclusive and consistent learning environment.

  • Help students develop coping strategies and resilience in daily routines.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience working with young people with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour (education, care or similar sectors).

  • A calm, empathetic and patient approach.

  • Confident using de-escalation techniques and emotional support strategies.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to build positive relationships.

  • Committed to safeguarding the well-being of children and young people.

  • A team player with a solution-focused outlook.
