We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Community Welfare Officer to lead welfare casework and manage a team of Community Support Workers delivering frontline assistance to service users. You will oversee complex cases, coordinate multi-agency responses, and ensure all work meets safeguarding and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct detailed assessments of clients’ social, housing, and welfare needs, including vulnerable individuals and those with complex challenges.
- Develop and oversee tailored support plans to achieve sustainable, positive outcomes.
- Provide specialist advice on welfare rights, housing law, and access to statutory and voluntary services.
- Line-manage Community Support Workers, including supervision, performance management, and professional development.
- Review and approve casework undertaken by Community Support Workers, ensuring accuracy, safeguarding compliance, and best practice.
- Coordinate multi-agency meetings, working with housing providers, health professionals, and local authorities.
- Act as escalation point for high-risk or complex cases.
- Deliver training sessions to staff and community stakeholders on welfare-related topics.
- Maintain accurate case records and prepare performance reports for management and funders.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Social Work, Social Policy, Psychology, Community Development, or related field.
- Significant experience in welfare rights, housing support, community development, or social care, including complex case management.
- Demonstrated experience of supervising or managing staff in a welfare or community service setting.
- Strong understanding of UK welfare systems, housing legislation, safeguarding requirements, and community support provision.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Desirable Skills
- Mediation or conflict resolution training.
- Mental health first aid certification.
- Experience working with refugees, care leavers, or individuals with mental health needs.
